Handwritten PDF files. How to Edit PDF: Best Free Programs

Editing PDF files is easy if you have the right tools. PDF format is still the best solution for quickly compiling and publishing electronic documents, but the difficulty is that you will not be able to directly change the contents of the PDF file. To edit content you will need a professional software, which will allow you to adjust the contents of the electronic file. Let's consider five simple options to edit PDF files yourself.

Method 1: Editing with PDFelement

PDFelement combines tools for editing, annotating, converting, protecting and signing documents. It allows you to make changes to text and images without leaving the PDF itself. This is one of the best tools, primarily due to its ease of use: the product's motto is “edit like in Word,” which gives users the ability to easily customize or change document content in the already familiar “office” interface.

Main features of the editor:

  • Edit text and graphics in PDF files: adding new paragraphs, correcting spelling errors, rearranging pages, cropping or replacing pictures. Everything happens when you click the corresponding button in the editor toolbar.
  • Adjust on the go: convenient mobile app allows you to add or edit text in PDF format right on your smartphone.

  • Extended set of functions: “Line Mode” and “Paragraph Mode” create specific templates for editing. When you add new text, it will be formatted according to the selected template.
  • Automatic spell checking ensures that typing errors are quickly corrected. If you need to update text (such as a phrase or date), use Find and Replace to make any necessary edits.

How to convert a PDF file?

Use PDFelement to open the file as shown:

  1. Select "Edit PDF" (see image above) or click the "Edit" button (see image below) at the top of the navigation bar in the home page interface.

2. Use the cursor to highlight the text or image you want to edit. PDFelement will show you the tools available for this.

3. Add or edit text on the page. Lines and paragraphs will be automatically reordered, or you can adjust the size of each element yourself.

4. Use the options in the object list to add, replace, move, or adjust an image on the page.

PDFelement has two versions of the application: standard and professional. Traditionally, the Pro version is considered more advanced, but for “home use” the standard version of the application will be more than enough.

Software support: Windows / Mac

Cost: Standard $59.95/Pro $99.95 (one-time use)

Method 2: Editing with Adobe Acrobat

Everyone knows that the PDF format is the brainchild of Adobe, and the Adobe Acrobat application is the standard editor for working with such files. But working in the application is possible only with a paid subscription and, as a rule, is used in large companies. But still, let's look at how to edit a document yourself in Acrobat.

  1. Select the File tab and click Open. In the interactive window, select the PDF file you want to edit. The application should display the content of the file being adjusted.

2. In the “Tools” tab, select the “Edit PDF” function, click on it so that it becomes active and you can select the one you need for PDF editing-file.

3. Edit the document: edit the text, check for spelling errors, change the size of elements, etc. Backgrounds, links, titles, and other feature sets are also editable in this mode, giving you virtually no restrictions on your editing options.

Conveniently, if you need to work remotely, then mobile version Adobe will also do an excellent job with all the tasks.

Note: If you agree to pay for a long-term license to use the editor, then the standard version will cost you $12.99 per month. If you just need to view the contents of PDF files, then free version Adobe Reader will fully satisfy your needs, but you won’t be able to edit the document in it.

Software support: Windows/Mac

Cost: Standard $12.99/Pro $14.99 (monthly)

Method 3: Alternative Applications

As an alternative to installable editors, you can also use third party applications, which are often free and operate through your browser window.

It's worth noting right away that these tools have a limited set of functions compared to other paid editors, but for processing simple PDF files they are a completely workable solution.

PDF editor Sejda Online

If you do not want to download and install any specialized software utility for editing PDF files, then the Sejda application will allow you to edit documents online: change text, digital signatures, add images, shapes or annotation text to PDF format.

However, please note that there are some limitations to this online tool:

  • on the size of saved files and document storage (personal files are automatically deleted after 5 hours);
  • on the volume of the document being processed - the content should not exceed 200 pages or 50 MB;
  • The application allows you to process no more than 3 tasks per hour.

All Additional services and expansion of the scope of work are available only for a fee.

PDF editor Ableword

Ableword may not be a very popular application among users, but it supports working with documents created in most popular formats, which can not only be opened and saved as PDF, but also converted back from PDF to Word.

Ableword has a clear, familiar interface, very similar to the Word editor. It allows you to reformat images, adjust text, add or change headers and footers, etc. However, AbleWord is compatible with the following file types:

  • Microsoft Word® (doc, docx);
  • Adobe® PDF (pdf);
  • Rich text format (rtf);
  • Plain text (txt);
  • HTML (HTML, HTM).

It is worth noting that AbleWord is very easy to install and use. Of course, its limited functionality and unknown brand make many users doubt the reliability of the application, but if you do not deal with important documents, then this is a completely good working option.

Method 4: Edit PDF Using a PDF Converter

If you don't know how to work with PDF or you need to do a lot of "text work" without wasting time learning a new application, then you can always turn to the conversion option.

Convert PDF files to the format that suits you so you can work on them more easily software application. The easiest option is to convert text to Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Although in this case, converting the file may lead to disruption of markup, writing styles and text processing (font size and formatting style).

An alternative is to use a specialized PDF converter, such as HIPDF, which can convert PDF files to PowerPoint, Word, CSV, Excel. It is convenient that the application allows you to then convert the formatted document back into PDF format.

Among the disadvantages: the application is not Russified. Currently, the utility only supports English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, which somewhat limits its use.

Recently, more and more people are looking on the Internet for information about how to edit PDF files and whether it is possible to do it at all.

The fact is that very often a situation arises when a person downloads a file with some text and does not see that it is in .

He needs to edit the text inside this file or take part of it for himself. But it is impossible to do this in ordinary programs that allow you to simply view PDFs.

Yes, some editors, such as , allow you to simply copy the test from PDF files by pressing the Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V key combinations, but when inserting information into a full-fledged one, it is greatly distorted.

There is a way out of this situation, and not just one.

As for which program can edit PDF files, the most popular of them are FineReader and the same Microsoft Word.

FineReader

Microsoft Word

Surprisingly, Microsoft Word 2013 and 2016 allow you to open PDF documents without any manual conversions - everything happens automatically!

Take new versions of the most famous text editor can be found on the official Microsoft website - https://products.office.com/ru-ru/home?WT.mc_id=oan_winnav_office.

This option allows you to purchase a licensed version.

But even without this, you can find a huge number of pirated versions on the Internet with the same functionality.

In any case, to edit a document that is in PDF format, you must do the following:

  • Click the “File” button in the top menu.

  • Select the “Open” command from the drop-down menu (highlighted with a red frame in Figure 8). After that, use the “Browse” button (highlighted in green) to select the desired file in PDF format.

  • After this, the program will display a message indicating that it will slightly change the contents of the document. This implies that the recognized document may not fully correspond to the original.
    But we have no choice, so we click the “OK” button, wait a little and get a finished document, ready for editing.

Online

In fact, to convert PDF to Word it is not at all necessary to download or even buy any special program.

Even with a simple search on Google you can find dozens of such sites.

At the same time, the algorithm for using such services is always the same and consists in simply downloading the required file and clicking on one button.

For example, consider the interface of the first service in the above list, pdf2doc.com.

After we have followed the appropriate link, we need to select the conversion direction.

In this case, we will select “PDF to Doc”, which, in fact, is what we were looking for (highlighted in red in Figure No. 10).

As expected, there is a corresponding button for uploading files, which is highlighted in blue in the same picture.

The conversion happens very quickly and the converted file immediately appears in the list. All we have to do is click the “Download” button (highlighted in red in Figure No. 13).

It is done!

Question from a user

Hello.

Please tell me a working way to edit a PDF file. I need to correct some text in it, but I just can’t.

The file does not open in Word (more precisely, when I try to open it, hieroglyphs appear), I downloaded a bunch of programs: but everywhere they ask me to pay for the purchase (with all this, it is not clear, after payment, will I be able to edit my document?).

Is there a working free way?

Good day!

Yes, there was and still is a certain difficulty with editing PDF files (and probably will continue to be for a long time). Especially if we are talking about very large files (when opened on weak machines, they simply freeze...).

In general, in this article I will offer a fairly simple and effective method PDF editing (suitable for the vast majority of files).

Note: I deliberately do not include any online services in this article (since quite often PDF documents contain confidential and private information that is highly undesirable to show to outsiders!).

What you need

1) File (PDF format), which needs to be edited. If you are faced with such a problem, then you probably have it...

2) Office suite Libbre Office.

This is a free and very powerful office suite. In some of its capabilities and functions it surpasses Microsoft Office! In particular, if we talk about our topic, it has a Draw program in its arsenal, which can easily and quickly edit most PDFs (even those that Word refuses to open)!

Another important point!

PDF files can be different(I now mean not the number of sheets or topics, but the structure of the file...). There are PDF files with text, and some with scanned sheets or photographs (essentially, they are a collection of pictures arranged in order).

Editing example

2) Next, specify your file (usually, after 2-3 seconds, the file will be imported into the Draw program and automatically opened). Please note that after opening the document, you can immediately place the cursor in the desired location and edit the text.

Note: I specifically took a file with a table for the example (as a rule, they are more difficult to edit than just text).

3) If you need to not only edit a block of text, but also add another one, then:

Let's start editing a line in the table (example) / Clickable (large screen)

4) To clearly show how I changed the text, I decided to place two sections of the document on one screen (see example below). Moreover, I also highlighted the added text “site” in yellow so that it catches the eye...

5) After you finish editing the document, go to the menu "File" and select "Export to PDF" . So to speak, where we started is where we go...

Note: in addition to PDF, the document can be saved in other formats: GIF, ODF, HTML, TIFF, etc.

File - export to PDF / Libre Office Draw

Next, in most cases, it is enough to immediately press the button "Export"(without changing any settings). Afterwards, all you have to do is give the file a name and indicate the folder where it will be saved.

6) As a test, I opened the resulting file in Adobe Reader: the document looked the same as before, only one part of it was highlighted in “yellow” (which I edited, see example below).

In general, the problem was solved...

Alternative option

If you have a simple text document in PDF (without any tables, pictures, diagrams), then in most cases ordinary Word (which, moreover, is installed on most users, unlike the same Libre) will “handle” it Office).

Note: some users, by the way, do not realize that Word is capable of opening many PDF files and even allowing them to be saved in DOC/DOCX format.

How to edit a PDF file in Word (valid for Word 2016, 2019):

1) first find the desired PDF file and open it in Word (see example below).

2) Next, agree to the warning from Word (that it is going to convert your PDF). I note that large PDF files may take a significant amount of time (especially if your PC does not have great performance).

3) Afterwards, you can start editing. As an example, I formatted the text and added a note about the site address (example in the screenshot below).

Let me note that Word opens some files very badly: all the markings disappear, the text is shifted, there are some stripes instead of signs. Therefore, the method is relevant only for “simple” documents.

In general, it's ready! The file has been edited...

Are there any other editing methods that work? (without online services)

Well, that's all I have for now. Good luck!
